Hi, I’m Jessica Hochman PhD. I have 20 years of experience working in education as a teacher, professor, researcher, and consultant. I have taught workshops and courses, and facilitated professional development for parents, teachers, librarians, and kids. I love learning and talking about literacy practices of all kinds, including reading, technology use, and plain old conversation.
I have a BA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and a PhD from Columbia University Teachers College. Feel free to check out syllabi of courses I’ve taught, some of the research I’ve done, my CV and resume, and some of my writing.
I’m also one half of We Need 2 Talk, a multi-racial teaching team specializing in anti-racism and cultural competency education.
I help organizations, schools, and libraries use culturally responsive practices to build stronger, more equitable communities. I am passionate about bringing the best theory and practices from the education world to environments where teaching and learning happen. I use my academic background to make a difference in spaces outside the academy, where community members gather to work, learn, and seek information.
